Local Editor, Washington Post
Mike Semel is the local editor of The Washington Post. He joined The Post in 2000 as assistant Virginia Editor and has been Virginia Editor, criminal justice editor and Deputy Local Editor before becoming Local Editor in 2014. As Virginia Editor, Semel oversaw The Post’s coverage of the Virginia Tech massacre, which won the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting. Before coming to The Post, he was assistant managing editor of the Bergen Record overseeing news coverage. He also has worked at The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk.
